Upcoming Programs and Events for Teens





"YNK" - You Never Know (Mysteries!)
--This is the Teen Summer Reading Program. Register in the Children's library or at any teen program. For every 100 pages read, you will recieve an entry form for a weekly drawing, where you can win either a $25 Target Gift Certificate or Two YNK T-shirts.
This program runs from July 6th to August 10th.

Urban Legends Quiz
--Test your knowledge by answering brainteasers! Get all ten correct and you'll get an entry form for the weekly drawing listed above. Questions will be displayed in the Children's Library and this program runs from July 7th to August 10th.


Reel Books For Teens
-Watch a movie based on a book or short story and discuss plot, characters and the similarities to the book or short story. Registration is required.

  • Murder on the Orient Express (by Agatha Christie) - Saturday, July 14 @ 2:00pm

"Say What?" Photography Workshop
-Learn how to set up backgrounds and props to produce photographs that are mind-boggling, spooky and surrealistic. Space is limited, so register today!

It takes a Village to Solve a Puzzle
See which team of teens can finish putting together large-scale picture jigsaw puzzles. Registration is required.

Actionopolis Authors Arrive! Learn about Adventure Animation
Meet the detroit authors of this awesome adventure series. Registration is open to teens in the 6th-12th grades.

Most Mysterious Photo Contest
Enter your scariest, weirdest, most unbelievable photo any time between July 7 and August 3 and you could win an awesome prize. Pick up a registration packet from the Children's Library Reference Desk. Photos will be judged during the "Our Weird World" program.


Our Weird World
An eerie slide show about UFOs, ghosts, conspiracy theories, modern monsters and the paranormal. Registration is required.

"lights, Camera, Poetry"
Tonight at the Detroit Public Library we have our grand finally of Poetry Nite. There will be local teen poets performing their own works. Come out and support our young poets.

Bored this week-end, just can't find anything to do well how about going to the box office or the Jeanette Wheatley theatre.
  • Hitting the box office this Friday is "The Invisible"

Nick, is a high school senior with a bright future until, in a tragic case of mistaken identity, he is brutally attacked by a troubled girl, Annie, and his body is left for dead. Now in limbo, not quite dead but invisible to the living, his spirit can only watch as his mother and the police search frantically for him, unaware that he is only hours away from truly perishing.

  • Sparkle is a 1976 film directed by Sam O'Steen and released by Warner Bros. Pictures. Inspired by The Supremes. The film beings in Harlem, New York in 1958. The Williams sisters - Sister, Dolores, and Sparkle - are singers in their local church's teenagers' choir along with their friends Stix and Levi. Come and watch the movie come to life with Cass Technical students.

Not into poetry or musicals then how about knocking something down. Come join a bowling league at Mayflower Lanes. Leagues begin on May 2nd, 9th, and 19th for both adults and youth. Located on Plymouth Rd. in Redford between Beech Daily Rd and Inster Rd.
